Electrodes

.jpgThe electrodes for the manual arc-welding are the rods up to 450mm long made from welding wire, which is coated with the mixture of elements to increase ionisation, to protect from damaging impact caused by the air and metallurgic processing of welding bath.
The metal electrodes for the arc-welding and smelting are manufactured according to the GOST 9466-75.
Based on the area of application the electrodes for manual arc-welding fall into following categories:


• U – fro welding of low-alloyed carbon constructional steel with tensile strength up to 600 Mpa implies 9 types of electrodes (338, 342, E42, E46, E46, E50, E50, E55, E60);
• L – for welding of alloyed constructional steel with tensile strength above 600Mpa; GOST implies 5 types of electrodes (E70, E85, E100, E125, E150);
• T – for welding of alloyed heat resistant steels – 9 types.
• B – for welding of high-alloyed with special features – 49 types (GOST 10052-75);
• H – for the smelting of surface layers with special features – 44 types (GOST 10051-75)
For example:
• The electrodes grades, -3, -4, -3, -4, -6 type E 46 refers to the group U.
• Type E42A refers to type U – UONI 13/45.
• Type E50 refers to type U – UONI 13/55;
• The welding stainless steel electrodes mentioned above refer to the group B;
The numbers stated in types of electrode for welding of steel construction indicate the guaranteed ultimate strength limit of metal junction.
Based on type of coating the electrodes fall into the following categories:
• Acid – A (electrodes ANO – 2 and other) such coatings generally consist of the iron oxide and manganese. Such types of electrodes are very functional but toxic;
• Basic – B (UONI 13/45, OZC – 2 and other). Such coatings do not contain iron oxide and manganese (marble, fluorite, quartz, ferric alloys and etc). The metal junction made by the electrode with special coating is very malleable. Such electrodes are used to join the most essential constructions;
• Cellulose –C (OZC-1 and other). Consist of cellulose, organic resins, ferric alloys, talc and etc. and are very suitable for welding in any spatial location but yield smelted iron with reduced plasticity, are used for welding of the low depth steel;
• Rutile – R ( N-3, N-4, R -3, Z -4, Z-6 and other), very functional, less toxic, suitable for welding in any spatial location;
• Mixed types:
• Other types of coating – P;
• The electrode grade is characterised by the particular coating composition, electrode shaft grade, the functional properties of metal junction;
• The electrodes, grade: N-3, N-4, R -3, Z -4, Z-6 has rutile type coating and are used for manual arc-welding of constructions made from carbon steel grades, type t0-t3 by GOST 380-94 of all oxidation states and also t5 - 20 by GOST 1050.
• The electrodes are available in diameters 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0.
• The electrodes UONI 13/55 has basic coating and are used for arc-welding of the most essential constructions made from low-alloyed carbon steel, when the metal junction is required to meet a high standards for plasticity and impact viscosity.
• The electrodes, grade N, R refers to the types of alternating current electrodes, UONI – static.
